History

Since 1998, pupils from Bishopton Primary School have benefited from being coached in basketball, with some really talented players emerging as a result. However, it used to be the case that when the time came to leave primary school, almost none of these players ever played basketball in a team set-up again. Despite encouragement to join existing local community clubs, generally, those players didn't carry forward their interest in the sport. Clearly, what was needed was a club within the village to capture their passion for the sport.

This led to Bishopton Basketball Club being founded in 2004 by Tim Burges (a teacher at Bishopton Primary School) together with a group of parents whose children were showing great enthusiasm for Basketball. A Committee was formed, a constitution drawn up and we became an official basketball club, recognised by Basketball Scotland.

29 April 2004 saw our first training night at Erskine Sports Centre with three courts running across the main hall to accommodate different age groups. In our first, short season, we organised a very successful tournament as a fitting end to our basketball year. This provided a tangible demonstration of the talent we continue to have at the Broncos.

In our first full season 2004-05, we concentrated on honing our skills while introducing new players to the club, and on 28 April 2005, the Club celebrated its first birthday in style with a fun night at Erskine Sports Centre.
